
Mathematics Content Strands
Numbers and Operations
Tests measure students’ understanding of number concepts and the concepts of operations including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, as well as fluency in computation and estimation.
Algebra
Tests measure students’ understanding of patterns, relations, and functions; ability to use algebraic symbols to represent and analyze situations; ability to create models to represent mathematical situations; and understanding of change in a variety of situations.
Geometry and Measurement
Geometry: Tests measure students’ understanding of two- and three-dimensional geometric shapes and the relationships among them, coordinate systems, symmetry, and transformations, as well as their ability to perform visual and spatial reasoning.
Measurement: Tests measure students’ understanding of measurement concepts and their facility with the tools, procedures, and formulas of measurement.
Data Analysis and Probability
Tests measure students’ facility in collecting, organizing, and displaying data; understanding of statistical methods; ability to draw conclusions and make inferences based on data; and understanding of probability.
