Using Data to Improve Performance
by National Middle School Association and Measured Progress
Using Data to Improve Performance is a three-part professional development program designed for schools or teams that are committed to improving student performance. The program presentations are provided on CD-ROMs that can be viewed in small-group or whole-school faculty settings. While the CDs can be used individually, the program is most effective when the entire series is followed from beginning to end.
Part One
Participants learn how a school or team can work toward change by investigating current practices and programs and their effects on student learning. Protocols, or guidelines for effective collaboration, are shared to establish a faculty that will effectively work together toward change.
Part Two
By learning the relationships among content standards, performance standards, and subsequent assessments, participants further their understanding of the data being gathered and analyzed. The focus is on understanding and analyzing assessment data from a wide variety of sources. In addition to analyzing data, participants examine student work to reflect on instructional practices and determine curricular implications.
Part Three
Participants are introduced to a variety of problem-solving tools that will allow individuals or teams to deeply analyze data to determine which factors impact student performance. By the end of the program, participants will be prepared to develop an action plan that is supported by evidence gathered from data.
