Montana
Working with Measured Progress, Montana educators and the Office of Public Instruction (OPI) developed criterion-referenced tests (CRT) in reading, mathematics, and science. This portion of the state's assessment system is known as Montana Comprehensive Assessment System (MontCAS). A reading and mathematics alternate assessment was developed and implemented in grades 4, 8, and 10 in the spring of 2004.
Approximately 84,500 students in grades 3 through 8 and 10 are tested annually in reading and mathematics (CRT and CRT-Alt). Science tests were added for grades 4, 8, and 10 in the spring of 2008.
