Measured Progress’s Michael Nering Named International Journal of Testing Editor

DOVER, NEW HAMPSHIRE – January 4, 2012 – The International Test Commission has appointed Michael Nering as editor-elect for the quarterly publication, the International Journal of Testing. Dr. Nering was chosen, along with Dr. Avi Allalouf from the National Institute for Testing and Evaluation in Jerusalem, to assume this important role.  Together they will serve one year as editors-elect as of March 1, 2012. Starting in 2013, Drs. Nering and Allalouf will serve a three-year term as co-editors.

The International Journal of Testing (IJT) is dedicated to the advancement of theory, research, and practice in testing and assessment in psychology, education, counseling, human resource management, and related disciplines. IJT publishes original articles addressing theoretical issues, methodological approaches, and empirical research, as well as integrative and interdisciplinary reviews of testing-related topics and reports of current testing practices.

As co-editor, Dr. Nering will be partly responsible for determining the published content of IJT. By working with the Editorial Board Dr. Nering will ensure all published articles are scientifically sound using state-of-the-art psychometric methodologies. Additionally, he will work with the editorial team, along with the Council for the International Test Commission, to increase readership of IJT around the world.

The appointment is consistent with the active role Dr. Nering plays in the international educational measurement community. He has presented and published an impressive body of work on a wide range of psychometric topics and is actively involved with the research community in various capacities. In his role as Assistant Vice President of Research and Analysis at Measured Progress, Dr. Nering oversees all psychometric, data, and reporting services. During his 12 years with the company, he has played a principal role in guiding Measured Progress in its use of psychometrics to meet clients’ assessment and reporting needs.

“I am honored to have been chosen to serve as an IJT editor,” said Nering. “This is not only personally gratifying, but an excellent opportunity to enhance Measured Progress’s role in the global measurement community while at the same time serving in an important capacity for the International Testing Commission.”
